educ-500g st: explicit instruction (1 credits)
many of our students struggle with learning new skills and concepts. explicit instruction is a systematic, direct, and engaging tool to help struggling learners. the effectiveness of explicit instruction has been validated in both general and special education. during this course, we will learn about the elements of explicit instruction and how to apply those elements to our lessons to deepen student learning. this course is a hybrid course consisting of a focus book, google classroom discussion boards, periodic face-to-face meetings, and one-on-one or small group meetings if desired.  runs from 1/13/2020 - 3/6/2020

educ-526 instructional leadership (3 credits)
candidates examine their strengths/weaknesses with regard to the skills and procedures the literature suggests are central to supervision, observation, evaluation, and professional development. a philosophy of s upervision and leadership is developed and articulated . open to interested non - degree seeking individuals . prerequisite: none, t 7:00 pm - 9:30 pm 1/13/2020 - 5/13/2020

educ-570 approach/working w/diverse communities (3 credits)
This course will focus on examining diversity in personal and local contexts and on analyzing how diversity is reflected in curriculum and instruction. Diversity applies to teachers, students, administrators and staff within the school as well as the various populations in the larger school community. Teachers will develop plans and strategies about parental partnering, tolerance, conflict resolution, curriculum sequencing and presentation, assessment, and community building. educ-581 school leader internship i (3 credits)
candidates synthesize and apply skills and knowledge gained during their graduate leadership courses and wisdom of practice . requires 105 clock h ours in a variety of activities aligned with leadership standards and supervised by an on - site mentor and a wittenberg university faculty member . for candidates seeking graduate degree in leadership and/or working toward principal licensure. prerequisite: completion of educ 512, educ 526, educ 528, educ 532, educ 537 . w 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm, 1/13/2020 - 5/13/2020

educ 582 school leader internship ii (3 credits)
capstone experience for principal licensure - seeking candidates . requires 120 clock hours in a variety of activities aligned with building principal standards . up to one year to complete the requirements for the course working with an on - site mentor and a wittenberg university faculty member . increasingly complex leadership responsibilities will be required . prerequisite: successful completion o f all courses in leadership program and educ 539 the principalship or taken concurrently with educ 539.  w 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm, 1/13/2020 - 5/13/2020

educ-600 directed research (0 to 4 credits)
directed research serves as the capstone experience in the master of arts in education degree. candidates will work with their thesis committee to craft and complete a substantial, high-quality research project. although the completed projects will differ, all must include a written review of the literature pertaining to the candidate(s)'s research topic. the candidate(s) must document the research process and address the project's relevance, value, and significance. see the thesis project preparation guide for details on the completion of the project. this course entails completion of the project proposal, successful completion of the research, and an oral defense before the thesis committee. initial registration for educ 600 requires enrollment for 4 semester credits. prerequisites: 550, 560, 570, 590, and 595.  meeting times tbd

educ-528 school fin and human resources (3 credits)
introduction to the concepts and issues related to public school finance and fiscal control and district/building employees. focuses on historical, technical, and legal aspects of school finance; implications on instruction and staffing; sources of revenue; and current issues and challenges in school finance and human resources. open to interested non-degree seeking individuals. prerequisite: none.  meeting times tbd, may 18 - june 26, 2020

educ-532 school law (3 credits)
provides an in-depth examination of federal and state school law for educational leaders addressing legal issues that impact the operation of public schools such as school organizational structures, federal and state systems, teacher rights, rights of students with disabilities, instructional issues, and tort liability . open to interested non - degree seeking individuals . prerequisite: none.  m/w 4:15 pm - 7:15 pm, 5/18/2020 - 6/26/2020

EDUC-512 Leadership for Learning & Dev (3 Credits)
the course serves as one of the professional studies courses for the graduate program's teacher leader degree-seeking cohort. the course is designed for participants to articulate a school-wide vision for student learning and achievement. participants will acquire the knowledge, skills and understanding to provide purpose and direction to the articulation of a school vision for learning and achievement. attention will be paid to the development a plan for school-wide change. the course will address research based instructional/behavioral strategies, data-driven decision making, and professional development in relation to student learning and development. the course is also open to interested graduate students who are not part of the leadership program. this course is also open to interested graduate students who are not pursuing the ohio principal license.  online, july 6 - august 7, 2020

EDUC-585 Research & Study LA & Reading (4 Credits)
provides endorsement candidates the opportunity to deepen and extend their knowledge of the theory, practices, and principles underlying effective language arts and reading instruction in grades k - 12 . fieldwork will involve an action research project with 30 hours of classroom instruction related to a selected literacy topic. required for ohio reading endorsement. prerequisite: none.  online, 5/18/2020 - 8/7/2020

educ-590 reading/writing for action research (3 credits)
the major purpose of this course is to instruct participants as to how to identify research interests, determine strategies, and form designs to complete research projects. participants will learn action research strategies that help them define questions and determine methods of gathering information and assessing it. participants will also examine the process and practice of both quantitative and qualitative research. by the end of the course, students will clarify a research question and be able to write a research plan and preliminary review of the literature. prerequisite: educ 550.  m 4:15 pm - 7:15 pm, 5/18/2020 - 5/30/2020.  and m 9:00 am - 12:00 pm, 5/31/2020 - 8/7/2020

educ-605 practicum in reading (4 credits)
applying knowledge of informal and formal evaluation instruments for diagnosing reading ability and disability with students. learning to plan appropriate intervention experiences fo r struggling students. fieldwork will involve individualized instruction and 70 hours of one - on - one tutoring with a younger and older student and completion of time log and tutoring plans. required for ohio reading endorsement.  5/18/2020 - 8/7/2020
